The chimney for the wood burning pizza oven presented special challenges. Mid way through the chimney construction the design was changed to give a slimmer profile at the top and to save weight on the oven hearth.
Lessons learned - a change I would make.. When I built the brick arch support, I added a piece of flat steel, 1/4 in thick on top of the outside arch row. My thinking was that I wanted to keep weight off of the arch for what I was then planning on being a tall brick chimney. Well I changed the plans to the metal chimney you see decribed in the pictures and text below so the steel was not needed. I do have a minor problem now with the steel rusting and slightly expanding, which is pushing out the mortar in the that joint - row.
